Ashes

With time you’ve gotten use to the glare
your eyes adjust to the flares of light
from the fires you start
all those bridges you’ve burned
oh, it’s no trick
and now, you just refused a reprieve
feigned the forgiveness you desperately need
betrayed with a kiss
you’ve gotten use to the burns on your lips
gleaned from your lies
…but so have I

Ashes, ashes we all fall down
Ashes, ashes we all fall down

With time it’s so much clearer to see
that in the end two wrongs equal three
consumed by your own mess
miles and miles with no rest

Bottom of the Sea

Twenty thousand leagues under the sea…
those arms that reach up from beneath
and pull your soul so very deep
down to the depths and shifting reef
oh, they will release
they will release

cut loose
opened up
absolved
set free
release
release
RELEASE
and believe

cut lose
opened up
absolved
set free from the coral kingdom…amnesty

Sea faring vessels to the shore…
escape the thrashing waves of war
the tide comes then and pulls you in
your sails are torn and wearing thin

a walk on the bottom of the sea
